Even though I’m not done with repairing everything and I’m still in need of driving the car a bit more, I figured now was a good time to post it up for sale on neons.org and see how it does. I listed it for $1500 OBO in good running condition so it should get some traction. But we shall see!
https://forums.neons.org/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=419915&p=3540370#p3540370
On the list for maintenance today includes the power steering (new reservoir, a hose, fluid, and belt) as well as trying to solve a minor exhaust leak and change brake lines. Should be able to knock that stuff off. Still have that stupid P0300 but it’s not misfiring and it’s running great so that problem can fuck off for now lol.
Also, this driveway is 90s as fuck right now. For today, the Miata is getting compression checked and hoping to solve the brakes on the Escort. Unfortunately the Miata won’t have legal plates until next week since it has no title. Otherwise it’s ready to drive! Needs some stuff but it does work.
Wanna play a game of how many parts in the SL are worth more than the combined value of the other 3 cars?

Good luck selling the neon. I’m not too far away from you (PA), and I’d be very tempted if I didn’t already have too many cars. My better half would not be happy if I came home with yet another one.

That seems a fair price for the neon. If I was closer damn it.
Good luck.

Where you at? Lol I have no idea if people actually want these so I’m unsure how easily it will sell.

So I bought a Fiat 500 recently to replace my Civic. I then convinced my GF that we should keep the Civic for winter, and I’ve still got my Miata plus her Civic. If I bought another car she’d kill me.

1 hour northwest of Detroit. The 2 doors up here are getting rare up here.

I would like to know more about why there’s a Factory Five Racing sticker across the windshield of that NA. I’m surprised FFR hasn’t created some sort of kit around the NA/NB Miata, like an Exocet, but giving it a retro twist to build your own MG/Lotus/etc. look-alike.

From what I understand, the car was just owned by a guy at FFR and kept stock. After some maintenance, the thing runs and turns pretty decently. Idk how much I trust the DIY at home alignment but it should be good enough to at least get it to an alignment shop without eating the tires.

If you know the R129 well enough, it’s a 1997 SL600 Sport SP2 package.
Only option it doesn’t have is the Pano Roof, but I have the regular hardtop.
Literally fell in love with it, couldn’t let it go, and yeah. There she sits.

Not sure if FFR did any work on this car. It’s damn near completely stock as far as I know (save for my work and the replacement glass window soft top). I swapped in Koni STR.t struts with Tein springs (a little low, but passable). It was owned by Jim Schenk, the R&D Director at Factory Five Racing, and I have been in contact with him about some of the history of it. Under 100k miles, which isn’t bad.

That’s yours? Didn’t you used to post about it a lot?

Yes, I used to post more about it. At the very beginning, people didn’t even believe me.
As far as I know, I’m owner number 4, and I’m nearing 120k miles. Car runs wonderfully, needs some cosmetic work, and I’ll be replacing the fan clutch soon.
It’s a wonderful car to drive. It’s about the journey, not the destination. I love driving around with the top down, but it’s always fun to drive. I need to change the insurance I carry soon though, values are starting to climb, and what I have now absolutely does not reflect that, it’s just the only policy I could get with full coverage.

You need to post more with it so I can’t live vicariously through your posts.
I bet it is just a blast. What insurance do you have? I am suprised that was the only full coverage you could get.

I currently have Progressive for a relatively reasonable price that I am content with continuing to pay, but I know it wont cover anything if there was a problem (the biggest reason I drive it less and less now).
Haggerty, Grundy, and a handful of other classic insurance companies wont give me a policy for a reasonable amount because it’s not in a garage, and I’m under 29. The rep at Haggerty reluctantly admitted that they make it harder for people under 29, especially when the car is not kept in a garage attached to your house.
I’ll be taking it out for a few more drives before winter, but the hard top will be going back on soon, mostly because it’s taking up a lot of room in the home office that I need to get another desk into.
I’ll be posting about it a bit soon when I compare it to the Miata. Yep, I’ll be comparing a luxury sports car to a budget convertible. Apples and Oranges never went together so well.

What a great comparison. Yeah insurance and age is a bitch.
